The Julius Buchwald Collection consists of manuscripts, musical compositions, family correspondence, and printed materials. The bulk of the collection consist of Julius Buchwald’s writings and musical compositions, most of which were composed in the late 1930s. Julius Buchwald was born in Vienna, Austria in 1909. He immigrated to England in 1940 and moved to the United States in 1944. He was a poet and a composer. He also won numerous prizes at chess problems competitions. He died in 1970.

The first folder contains a small number of letters, including some from Hans Leip and Käte Hamburger, Nelly Sachs, the CV-Zeitung and Jüdischer Kulturbund Hamburg, a short typescript of Guetermann's translations of Else Lasker-Schüler's Hebrew Ballads, and a list of Guetermann's publications. The second folder consists of a scrapbook of clippings of Guetermann's reviews of books, films, and theatrical productions from German newspapers, as well as some additional loose clippings.
